HallMark Announces Extension of the Groupage Export Facilitation Scheme (GEFS) Until December 2025
In a significant development for the export sector, HallMark Veterinary & Compliance Services is pleased to inform Official Veterinarians (OVs) and Food Chain Compliance Officers (FCCOs) that the Groupage Export Facilitation Scheme (GEFS) has been extended until December 2025. This extension marks a crucial step in supporting food business operators with steady supply chains, enhancing the efficiency of the certification process.
Background of GEFS Extension
Initially set to conclude on 31 December 2023, the GEFS has been a pivotal component in facilitating exports. It utilises 30-day Support Attestations, streamlining the certification process for exporters. The decision to extend the scheme follows productive discussions between the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra), the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), representatives from Devolved Administrations, the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA), and other key stakeholders.
Planned Improvements and Consultations
During this two-year extension, Defra aims to implement several enhancements to the GEFS, including:
Providing clearer guidance and information for Certifying Officers, exporters, and suppliers, particularly regarding audit processes.
Introducing enhanced checks on Support Attestations and increasing the frequency of in-person visits.
Exploring and analysing alternative systems to further streamline the export process.
Conducting a comprehensive evaluation of the scheme's effectiveness.
